During 2007, with the growth in membership allowing the AICR UK to become more financially stable, the committee have been keen to establish more ties with charities.

With your support In 2008 we donated just under 1000 GBP to Hospitality Action.

Hospitality Action – our designated charity

Concentrating on the domestic scene, it was not difficult to decide our chosen charity should be “Hospitality Action” – the industry’s benevolent fund – celebrating 170 years in 2007. Hospitality Action looks after workers of the hospitality industry who have fallen on hard times or who have suffered from drug or alcohol issues.

When you look at the Hospitality Action website, you will see the names of the “great and the good”. AICR UK became a corporate member of the charity from June 2007.

Since June, the AICR UK made a corporate donation and at the cocktail party at the Jumeriah Lowndes Hotel in July 2007, hosted by the general manager Jane Renton MI, we managed to contribute a further £180.

As a result, the committee decided to continue in placing a bowl at each event where members will be asked to contribute a minimum of £2 or as much as you can to gain entry to the event. This will be totalled up as an annual donation from the Treasurer.

Previous Fundraisers

In July 2007 some of the members of the AICR UK ran in the “BUPA Great Capital Run” over the distance of 10K in Hyde Park. All of those who competed finished the distance and each contributed to “Help a London Child” via Capital Radio.

Since that success, all those who participated in the Hyde Park race have put their names forward to the “Save the Rain Forest” 10K race in mid September 2008 at Regents Park and all completed the distance with the slowest being an hour.

The Starlight Foundation

The AICR International Presidium took place in London during January 2006 and gave us an opportunity to donate 25% of the takings of the raffle run at the Gala dinner at the Savoy totalling £550. Being an international event, the committee decided to contribute to the Starlight Foundation – a charity allowing children who are desperately ill to make their wishes come true. Some of the stories would make even the strongest of you tearful.
